Are you training the dog to the whistle or training the dog to stop on the whistle, or stopping on a visual cue?
Early days training/conditioning for many would be incorporating possibly, a sit command thrown in as well, with this audible 'Marker' ?Perhaps even an addition of some treat reward at close quarters following this 'audible Marker'?
If the purpose and process for the dog to Stop on hearing an audible sound with the belief that something 'Good is going to happen next' (for the dog) The visual markers such as hand raised or even verbal praise are superfluous when remote from the handler. Or are they continued by some in training/transition .Many dogs stop ,but then do other various things to gain a reward or not!! ..
